SUMMARY:“Unexpected Encounters” an exhibition by Alan Trugman
DESCRIPTION:“Unexpected Encounters”\, an exhibition by Alan Trugman\, will be on view at Woodruff’s Art Center from October 3 through November 14. An opening reception will take place on Friday\, October 3 from 5-6:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public. \n“Unexpected Encounters\,” is a creative exploration into the possibilities of printmaking. Alan’s unique approach combines the techniques of relief and monoprinting\, creating an interplay between the inherent structure of the carved relief plates and the expressive spontaneity of monotype printmaking. Each print is a singular work of art that reveals a dialogue between color and mark. Alan’s process of printing and responding allows for a balance between intention and unpredictability\, resulting in compositions that are both deliberate and unexpected. \nAlan is a multidisciplinary artist working in printmaking\, photography\, and digital art. Born in New York and raised in Los Angeles\, he studied theater at Los Angeles City College and the University of Southern California. He spent 20 years in the entertainment industry\, contributing to both costuming and costume design for television and film\, before relocating to Cape Cod in 1993 to reconnect with his passion for visual art.

SUMMARY:Jazz Celebration Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:ArtsFalmouth will hold a Jazz Celebration Fundraiser on Wednesday\, November 5\, from 6:30 to 9:30 PM at the Daily Brew Coffee House & Lounge\, 412 North Falmouth Highway in North Falmouth. Doors open at 6 PM. \n“We are very pleased to be able to showcase a number of outstanding local and regional jazz players\,” said Pat Ryan of Full Spectrum Music\, who has worked with ArtsFalmouth to organize the event. “It will be a treat for everyone\, from jazz lovers to those who would enjoy an introduction to some of the many accomplished improvising musicians the Cape has to offer.” \nPerformers will include vocalists Andrea Capozzoli\, Olivia Yingling\, and Tish Adams\, brass and reed players Dennis Cook\, Mark Greel\, and Joe Mongelli\, and rhythm section players Andy Troyanos\, Fred Fried\, Laird Boles\, and Matthew Hutchinson. \nThey will be supported by a versatile house band of Chris Taylor on keys\, Zac Casher on drums\, Eric T. Johnson on bass\, and Pat Ryan on guitar.  \n“There are sure to be some surprise unannounced musical guests as well\,” said Ryan. ArtsFalmouth president Marilyn Rowland noted\, “Many of them have performed in various ensembles at ArtsFalmouth’s Jazz Stroll and other local events\, but this will be an exciting opportunity to see and hear them all in one room.” \nRyan\, who has performed with various jazz artists at the Daily Brew Coffee House & Lounge on Sundays this past summer\, said\, “The Brew is an exciting new music venue that has been attracting a lot of attention. The acoustics\, aesthetics\, and overall vibe are just incredible. This will be a fun evening of great music\, fellowship\, and\, of course\, good food and drink.” \nTickets are $25 per person in advance and are available on the Daily Brew website. \nThe purpose of the fundraiser is to support and supplement ArtsFalmouth’s ongoing jazz programming. This year\, for the first time since the Jazz Stroll was initiated in 2011\, ArtsFalmouth did not have sufficient funds available to support the Stroll\, and the event\, which featured up to a dozen jazz performances in shops\, restaurants\, and public spaces\, all free and open to the public\, had to be canceled. \n“We’re working hard to continue to find funding sources to enable us to continue all of our events: the Woods Hole Trad Stroll in May\, Arts Alive in June\, and the Jazz Stroll in October and also to expand our jazz programming\,” said Rowland. “We are calling on all those who value the role of the arts in contributing to the cultural vitality and creative economy of Falmouth and the Upper Cape to help us continue and expand our free and affordable events for all members of our community.” \nFor those who want to help but are unable to attend the fundraiser or who want to donate more\, visit the ArtsFalmouth.org and click on Jazz Celebration Fundraiser or Donate. \nFor more information\, email artsfalmouthinc@gmail.com.
