SUMMARY:The African American Heritage Trail of Martha’s Vineyard
DESCRIPTION:Highfield Hall & Gardens celebrates Black History Month with a talk by Elaine Weintraub on the African American Heritage Trail of Martha’s Vineyard (AAHTMV) on Saturday\, February 28\, from 11 AM to 12 PM. \nThe African American Heritage Trail of Martha’s Vineyard (AAHTMV) is a pathway dedicated to the contributions of the people of African descent to the Island. Established in 1998\, the AAHTMV celebrates the community\, encourages student involvement\, and advocates for inclusive history.   \nCo-founders Carrie Camillo Tankard and Elaine Cawley Weintraub met in 1989 and recognized a common mission to introduce the history of people of color into the Vineyard schools. Beginning with just four sites\, the trail has grown to more than 42 plaques today\, and the expansion to Falmouth began last fall\, with a commemoration of an African American scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory.  \nThe talk is free to the public. Preregistration is requested. Please register at:https://highfieldhallandgardens.org/event/talk-with-elaine-weintraub/ \nHighfield Hall & Gardens is at 56 Highfield Drive\, Falmouth\, MA 02540

SUMMARY:A Grilled Cheese Social
DESCRIPTION:A grilled cheese may seem like a simple meal! Butter on the griddle\, two pieces of bread and some cheese. It is certainly a delicious choice\, but that can get boring after a while! Many have found their own special remedy for the “normal” grilled cheese…but bringing it up in conversation can bring out the fire in the eye. Some folks don’t use butter at all! Why not some mayonnaise! I hear it gives an extra crunch. Or maybe an obscure mustard\, bacon\, or even bananas. It’s sort of like your parent’s meatloaf. That meatloaf is the only meatloaf you’ll eat! \nAt the Falmouth Public Library – Main Branch on Saturday\, February 28\, 2026 at 12:00 PM we will be making the grilled cheese sandwiches on flattop burners. We will be providing a variety of bread and cheeses. Don’t forget to bring your secret ingredient(s) and share it with your friends and other library patrons! \nThe event is appropriate for patrons ages 11+ unless accompanied by an adult. There will be library staff enjoying and overseeing the event. Adults and parents are more than welcome to join in on the fun! We will be having games and activities all about the Hermann Room while we cook up our glorious melted cheese and bread. The games may be a little “cheesy” (without the mess). The event is from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM. We hope to see you there! \nSigning up is very much appreciated. You can access the registration page HERE on our Falmouth Public Library events page or give us a call at 508-457-2555 x 7. Please reach out if you have any questions or problems with registering!
