SUMMARY:Magic the Gathering Deck Building Open House
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, May 5\, from noon to 3 PM\, during Falmouth Public Schools’ early release day\, the Falmouth Public Library Main Branch\, Young Adult room\, will be hosting a Magic the Gathering  open deck building workshop. \nCome in anytime and start building your own deck. Clint and other players of different levels will be there to help. Once you have your deck ready to go….It’s time to challenge your friends. \nNo registration required! The recommended age is 12+. We have a good amount of cards to work with but feel free to bring your own. First come\, first served. If you have any questions or suggestions please reach out to us at cjohnson@falmouthpubliclibrary.org or call us at 508-457-2555. \n“Magic the Gathering has been a beloved card game since 1993. From when I was a young kid to today\, I’ve been in gaming shops\, entered competitions\, and spent hours upon hours formulating decks that build off each other with mind blowing combos. There are so many different types of cards to use at different times and each card must be chosen wisely as it formulates an offense and defensive that protect your very own life points!” \nThere are creatures\, spells\, artifacts and many other different types of cards. Creatures have special abilities buffed up with attack and damage numbers. Spells can throw a deck into a tizzy. And if you don’t have enough magical energy (“land” or “mana” cards) to play\, you’re a helpless spell caster\, open to destruction! Magic the Gathering has always been created and maintained by Wizards of the Coast. They have released series after series of new cards to be used with new abilities and rules. Combining these cards into a deck shows the player’s true skill. Yes\, premade decks are released and fun to learn and play with but once you’re ready to get serious…it’s time to get down with your own imagination. You like vampires? Make a vampire deck. You like goblins? Make a goblin deck. Each class of creatures has its own advantages and disadvantages. \n

SUMMARY:International Book Group – Hurricane Season by Fernanda Melchor
DESCRIPTION:The International Book Group at West Falmouth Library is a volunteer-led group that meets on the first Wednesday of each month 3:45-5 p.m. Selections have either foreign settings or foreign authors\, usually both. New members are always welcome! Annual registration is requested to receive important communications about schedule or location changes; register below. Meetings are both in-person and on Zoom. \n“Hurricane Season is\, first and foremost\, a horror story―its horror coming from rather than contrasting with the lyricism of Melchor’s prose. Instead of supplying a welcome breeze in the heat\, the local river is where the children find the Witch’s body. Sophie Hughes’s translation renders the expansive\, punishing spirit of Mexican slang impressively.”― Emmanuel Ordóñez Angulo\, New York Review of Books \n“Melchor’s English-language debut is a furious vortex of voices that swirl around a murder in a provincial Mexican town. Forceful\, frenzied\, violent\, and uncompromising\, Melchor’s depiction of a town ogling its own destruction is a powder keg that ignites on the first page and sustains its intense\, explosive heat until its final sentence.”― Publishers Weekly

SUMMARY:The Outermost Mouse – Special Storytime with Author Lauren Wolk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special storytime Friday\, June 19 at 11 a.m. at the library\, featuring the newly released title The Outermost Mouse by Cape author Lauren Wolk (illustrated by Kristen Adam)\, followed by a book signing and sale in partnership with Eight Cousins Bookstore. \nThe Outermost Mouse loves her life at the tip of the beach. She has blue sky above and sand as warm and soft as her mother below. Best of all is the house\, a huge nest she has made her own. There are jam-jar posies\, lanterns full of gold\, and a clock that tick-tocks her to sleep at night. But a storm is coming. When the sky goes dark and a cold wind rises\, the little mouse must do everything she can to protect her home. Even though she’s small enough to fit into a teacup\, the Outermost Mouse is smart\, strong\, and brave—and ready to face the wild waves. \n“A triumphant tale of defending what you love.″ —Kirkus\, starred review \nLauren Wolk is best known for her novels\, including the New York Times bestselling novel Wolf Hollow\, which won a 2017 Newbery Honor\, the 2016 New England Book Award\, a 2017 Jane Addams Honor\, the 2018 Massachusetts Book Award\, and other honors. Lauren’s latest novel\, Candle Island\, published in 2025\, was a finalist for the New England Book Award. \nAdditionally\, Lauren is a visual artist represented by the Larkin Gallery (Provincetown and Harwich Port)\, and an award-winning poet and filmmaker. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod recently named Lauren 2026 Artist of the Year\, along with her InkLines Project co-founder Jackie Reeves. Wolk was also awarded a 2026 Creative Individuals grant by the MA Cultural Council. The Outermost Mouse is her first children’s picture book; she has two more picture books in progress.

SUMMARY:The Borromeo: Luminous Beauty
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, August 6\, 2026 at 5:30 PM\nFederated Church of Hyannis\, 320 Main Street\, Hyannis \nBorromeo String Quartet\n● Nicholas Kitchen\, violin\n● Kristopher Tong\, violin\n● Melissa Reardon\, viola\n● Yeesun Kim\, cello \nOne of the most important ensembles of our time\, the award-winning Borromeo String Quartet has been hailed for its “edge-of-the-seat performances” by The Boston Globe\, which called it “simply the best.” A fan favorite and pillar of the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival for many years\, the Borromeo is admired and sought after for both its fresh interpretations of the classical music canon and its championing of works by 20th and 21st century composers. The Chicago Tribune praised the Borromeo as “a remarkably accomplished string quartet\, not simply for its high technical polish and refined tone\, but more importantly for the searching musical insights it brings.” The San Diego Reader described the ensemble’s performance as “a musical experience of luminous beauty.”\nPerformances in Hyannis and Wellfleet will feature Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet in F Major\, Op. 59\, No. 1 and Antonín Dvořák’s String Quartet No. 14 in A-flat Major. \nFollowing the performance of The Borromeo: Luminous Beauty at the First Congregational Church of Wellfleet\, join the musicians for a private post-concert dinner hosted by a Festival board member at Chapel in the Pines in Eastham. This special opportunity is available for an additional donation of $100. Seating is limited.
