DESCRIPTION:Woods Hole Public Library volunteers will be holding their eagerly awaited Fabric & Fiber Sale on Sunday\, February 8\, from 10 AM to 2 PM. People come from far and wide\, first to donate\, and later to buy fabric\, yarn\, notions\, and much more. This one day event is a major source of fundraising for the Library’s operating budget\, and the generosity of both donors and shoppers are crucial to its success. \nAfter Falmouth’s only fabric store\, Fabric Corner\, burned down in 2014 leaving the town without a local place to buy material for sewing projects\, Woods Hole Public Library community members hatched a plan to hold a fundraiser sale on Super Bowl Sunday at the Library. The first sale in February 2015 was a great success\, and the tradition has continued and grown every year\, with only a one year interruption due to Covid\, making this year’s sale the 11th anniversary of this community event. \nThe Woods Hole Library is accepting donations for both the Fabric & Fiber Sale until February 5. If you are doing some end of the year cleaning of fabric\, yarn\, craft supplies\, jewelry\, and accessories\, bring your unwanted treasures to the Library! Donating helps to keep items out of the waste stream and into the hands of eager crafters while also benefiting our community-supported village Library. \nDonations for the sale have been pouring in since the beginning of January. Among this year’s treasures are a large collection of trimmings for upholstery projects\, many sewing machines\, tabletop looms\, rug hooking materials\, quilting and knitting books\, vintage textiles\, luxury yarns\, and much more. As usual\, there is an abundance of quilting cotton\, decorator fabrics\, and fleece of all colors and patterns. Along with notions\, knitting needles\, and a veritable rainbow of workhorse acrylic yarns\, there is truly something to delight every crafter. \nMany volunteer hours go into making this sale a well-organized\, fun\, community shopping experience. The Woods Hole Public Library is happy to offer this sale both as an important source of fundraising and as a way to further its mission of sharing community resources. They hail from as nearby as Falmouth and as far away as Dorchester\, and have played together for about 10 years. They love playing pieces from the traditional quartet repertoire\, as well as exploring modern music and non-classical arrangements.

DESCRIPTION:Solstice Singers presents “A Solstice Hallelujah\,” a pageant of songs\, instrumental music\, drama and dance celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America. \nPerformed in colorful period costumes\, the program includes pieces that could have been sung or heard at the time of our nation’s founding\, both in America and in Europe. The musical selections include contemplative as well as festive pieces for the celebrations surrounding the longest night of the year. \nSolstice Singers will be joined by Ensemble Passacaglia\, performing on an array of period instruments\, as well as the children’s chorus Les Enfants du Soleil. An original mummers play rounds out the program\, in which life is struck down by forces of evil (winter)\, only to spring to life again at the hands of a magical healer (spring). \nThe two performances take place at the Community Hall in Woods Hole at 68 Water Street on Saturday and Sunday\, December 20 and 21\, both at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $25\, $10 students\, free under age 5\, and are available at solsticesingers.org.

Tickets are $18\, $12 for members and $10 student/military. \nVIVA VERDI! feature documentary by Yvonne Russo\, USA\, 77 mins.\, 2025\, English and Italian \nIn 1896\, famed composer Guiseppe Verdi built a unique retirement home\, Casa Verdi\, in Milan\, Italy for musicians to live out their lives in retirement. VIVA VERDI! is an intimate glimpse into the lives of the celebrated opera singers and musicians currently living out their ‘third act’ while mentoring international music students who live among them at Casa Verdi. \nFrom these ‘guests’ of Verdi\, ages 77 to 107\, comprised of international opera singers\, ballet dancers\, musicians\, conductors and composers\, we hear an extraordinary array of personal and professional stories filled with music\, magic and passion\, and ultimately learn why Verdi called this remarkable home his “best work. \nWith “little altars” to Verdi in every corner\, and music and memories in every room\, the cross-generational mixing of young and old\, held together by an implacable commitment and relentless passion for music\, creates a highly charged atmosphere where the human spirit transcends both time and space. Most recently\, she directed\, produced and wrote the PBS animated short\, MINNIE’S WAR BONNET. A producer on KELLY’S BAR\, an independent feature with Casey Affleck’s Sea Change Media\, Russo worked for 15 years on a diverse slate of domestic and international television and film projects for such companies as HBO\, National Geographic Channel\, Discovery/TLC\, and the CBS/Smithsonian Channel. A member of the Academy of Television and Sciences\, she is also a member of the Producers Guild of America where she formerly served on the Board of Governors. Bring family\, bring friends… there’s nothing like a Holiday on the Cape. \nAlyssa Wang takes the podium for the first time as Cape Symphony’s Music Director at these wonderful performances. \nPatrice Tiedemann\, Soprano\nPatrice Tiedemann’s performance highlights include appearances as a soloist with Boston Lyric Opera as The Water in the East Coast premiere of The Little Prince\, in Hansel & Gretel with the Rhode Island Philharmonic\, as Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana with the Pioneer Valley Symphony\, and as Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus with Opera Providence and Cape Cod Opera. \nShe has performed as a Holiday Pops soloist with the Boston Pops\, the Cape Symphony\, and the New Bedford Symphony\, and as the Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music with New Bedford Festival Theatre and Theatre by the Sea\, with the Boston Civic Symphony (Verdi’s Requiem)\, with the University Chorale of Boston College (Dubois’s Seven Last Words of Christ and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony) and nationwide in classical\, sacred\, and theatrical repertoire. \nAs Artistic Director of Seaglass Theater Company\, Ms. Tiedemann produces creatively staged performances of classic vocal repertoire for Southern New England. In 2021\, she served as the dramaturg and sang the role of Eliza Brock for the world premiere of Jodi Goble’s Whaling Women. \nChatham Chorale\nIncorporated in 1977\, the Chatham Chorale is dedicated to performing the world’s rich diversity of choral music and supporting the musical arts and artists on Cape Cod. DESCRIPTION:The Pernambuco Chamber Ensemble returns to West Falmouth Library for a performance on Sunday\, November 23rd at 3pm. Tickets are $30. Registration is  required online. \nThe members of the Ensemble are Shirie Leng\, violin; Jessica Baum\, viola; Judith Glixon\, cello; Daniel Goodman\, piano; Michael Goldring\, double bass & voice. \nThe ensemble writes: “French Impressions is our 2025 Fall concert primarily featuring pieces by French composers. The concert also includes an original composition by our cellist\, Judith Glixon. Many of the pieces are in the shimmering French Impressionist style of Debussy\, Ravel and Faure. \n“We have included two audience favorites from the period – an arrangement of Debussy’s Clair de Lune for viola and piano\, and of Faure’s Pavane for piano trio. Also on the program are an early French trio sonata by Boismortier and a contrasting string trio by Russian composer Sergey Taneyev. The piano at the West Falmouth Library was built in the late 19th century. Early pianos have a different sound than modern ones\, so French Impressionist music performed on the instrument sounds like what the composers would have heard in their day.” \nThe ensemble is named Pernambuco because of their connections to pernambuco wood and their concern for the environment. Pernambuco has been used in the making of bows for over 250 years\, enhancing the performance of stringed music for generations. Today\, pernambuco is increasingly rare and endangered in many areas of its native habitat. By supporting their performances you join the ensemble on their mission to raise awareness and funds for environmental causes.

ArtsFalmouth president Marilyn Rowland noted\, “Many of them have performed in various ensembles at ArtsFalmouth’s Jazz Stroll and other local events\, but this will be an exciting opportunity to see and hear them all in one room.” \nRyan\, who has performed with various jazz artists at the Daily Brew Coffee House & Lounge on Sundays this past summer\, said\, “The Brew is an exciting new music venue that has been attracting a lot of attention. The acoustics\, aesthetics\, and overall vibe are just incredible. This will be a fun evening of great music\, fellowship\, and\, of course\, good food and drink.” \nTickets are $25 per person in advance and are available on the Daily Brew website. \nThe purpose of the fundraiser is to support and supplement ArtsFalmouth’s ongoing jazz programming. This year\, for the first time since the Jazz Stroll was initiated in 2011\, ArtsFalmouth did not have sufficient funds available to support the Stroll\, and the event\, which featured up to a dozen jazz performances in shops\, restaurants\, and public spaces\, all free and open to the public\, had to be canceled. \n“We’re working hard to continue to find funding sources to enable us to continue all of our events: the Woods Hole Trad Stroll in May\, Arts Alive in June\, and the Jazz Stroll in October and also to expand our jazz programming\,” said Rowland. “We are calling on all those who value the role of the arts in contributing to the cultural vitality and creative economy of Falmouth and the Upper Cape to help us continue and expand our free and affordable events for all members of our community.” \nFor those who want to help but are unable to attend the fundraiser or who want to donate more\, visit the ArtsFalmouth.org and click on Jazz Celebration Fundraiser or Donate. \nFor more information\, email artsfalmouthinc@gmail.com.
