Glad Rag Dolls: Talented Divas, Tragic Lives: Stephanie Miele in Concert

June 8 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

$30

Vocalist Stephanie Miele returns to the Library for “Glad Rag Dolls: Talented Divas, Tragic Lives”, on Sunday, June 8th at 4pm. She will be accompanied on piano by Roy Campbell. Tickets are $30 and may be purchased online.

Abused, addicted, uneducated, poor, mismanaged, Grammy winners, Oscar nominees, inductees into halls of fame. The eight 20th century women whose lives and music will be highlighted in these performances have many of these things in common. Some came from such lowly beginnings and had so many struggles in their lives, it is hard to believe that they accomplished anything at all. Yet they found their way onto stages, into recording studios, and into films and brought joy to audiences world-wide. Betty Hutton, Edith Piaf, Billie Holiday, and Judy Garland are just a few of these divas. Please come as we explore the lives and music of these women and more.

Vocalist Stephanie Miele lives near Menauhant Beach in Falmouth with her husband Lenny and currently works as a piano technician tuning pianos. She graduated from the High School of Performing Arts in New York City, and obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston University and Bridgewater State University, respectively.

She was a music teacher in the Brockton school system and a librarian at the Burkland School in Middleborough. She has sung with the Handel and Hayden Society and the Wintersauce Chorale in Boston and has been active in community theater performing in a wide range of musical roles such as Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof, Eve in “The Apple Tree,” and Agnes Gooch in Mame. She has been a guest soloist with the Falmouth Chorale, and has appeared at the Cahoon Museum, Highfield Hall and Gardens, the Cape Cod Cultural Center, the Falmouth Historical Society, and libraries, women’s clubs, and charitable organizations throughout the Cape.

After graduating from UMass Lowell with performance degrees in piano and trombone, Roy Campbell toured as principal trombonist with Milton Berle in a two-year vaudeville review. Returning to Boston he worked as trombonist with Sarah Caldwell’s “Boston Opera Company” and as house trombonist for the Colonial Theater, South Shore Music Circus, and the Cape Cod Melody Tent. Roy has also performed at the Shubert and Wang Theaters and with the Boston Pops “Adventures In Music” concerts. Roy has taught at Brown University, Norwood High School, and South Shore Conservatory. He currently teaches at the Cape Cod Conservatory and is professor of music at Bridgewater State University. He has directed shows at Monomoy Theater in Chatham, Harwich Jr. Theater, and was conductor and director of bands at Bridgewater State University.
