ArtsFalmouth, Inc. is happy to announce that Arts Alive 2022 will be held June 17, 18, and 19 on the Falmouth Library Lawn and adjacent Shore Street Extended and Peg Noonan Park.

This year we will be celebrating both Father’s Day and Juneteenth and have special activities planned. See the schedule below!

Arts Alive 2022 Schedule

Friday, June 17, 2022: The Performance Tent

5 PM: Juneteenth Celebration
Jeanne Morrison of AmplifyPOC Cape Cod and the League of Women Voters and State Representative David Vieira will re-enact the original Juneteen. David will portray Major General Gordon Granger, the Union Army General who  issued General Order No. 3 on June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Texas, informing residents of, and enforcing, Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, which set all the enslaved people in Confederate States free on January 1, 1863. in 2021, President Biden proclaimed June 19 to be Juneteenth, a federal holiday.

FHS students will play Six Black Heroes: Alexander Augusta, Robert Small, John Lawson, Harriet Tubman, Susan Baker King Taylor, and Clara Barton. All are all civil war heroes and heroines, especially the turning points leading up to emancipation

5:30 or 6 PM to 9 PM: Town Dance with The Paradise Rock Band

Born on the streets of Woods Hole in 1982, The Paradise Rock Band went from The Wall on Water St to the Fishmonger to the Ziploc Lounge to the stage of the MBL Club to the music venues of the Cape. Founding member and lead singer Craigo Carlson has kept the band rocking for over 40 years with their Cape style classic covers from the Woodstock era and beyond. Seasoned pro drummer Alex Lane holds down the beat with Malcom Child on bass. Two keyboardists, Dickie Nolan and Eric Hayden, round out the band’s signature sound, while Greg Washburn fills in on saxophone.

The band’s upbeat music and infectious (in a good way) energy will get everyone smiling, tapping their toes, and dancing!

Saturday, June 18, 2022: The Performance Tent

On the Lawn:

Painters on the Lawn from the Falmouth Art Center’s Monday Morning Painters will be on the lawn Saturday morning to paint the fun and excitement of Arts Alive. Watch them paint or join in!

Take the kids to the Children’s Art Tent for fun with a variety of art supplies. Make a Father’s Day card for Dad, or paint a kindness rock. Fun for kids of all ages, including adults!

Play corn hole, and outdoor games

10 AM: The Sonnay Fiddlers

Led by award-winning fiddle player Nikki Engstrom, the Sonnay Fiddlers are “students of Nikki, not all young,” who play a lively set of Celtic tunes.

11 AM: Trident Chamber Ensemble

The Trident Chamber Ensemble plays chamber music for piano and reed trio (oboe, clarinet, and bassoon), offering traditional classical music through modern pieces, including works by Mendelssohn, Tomasi, Zemlinsky, Ibert, Jenni Brandon, and Jungmann.

12 Noon: Turning Pointe Dance Studio

Students from the Turning Pointe Dance Studio, led by Laura Sciortino, will perform a collection of contemporary and classical dances.

1 PM: L’Esperance Mandolins

Led by Josh Bell, L’Esperance Mandolins are a group of 20, playing various types of mandolins, percussion, and guitar. Their repertoire includes classical, folk, and jazz music. the group has performed for audiences from New York to Rhode Island to Vermont for over 30 years.

2 PM: L’Esperance Mandolins

3 PM: The Dawna Hammers Band

Singer/songwriter Dawna Hammers performs cool and uplifting original soft rock, county, blues, and jazz with her band.

4 PM: Khadija and Troupe Mirage Egyptian Dance

Troupe Mirage is an Egyptian-style dance troupe of women aged 21 to 60, led by Khadija (Katrina Valenzuela), who teaches Egyptian Dance and Culture and Arabic language at Cape Cod Community College and Egyptian Dance at Ballet Works in South Yarmouth.

5 PM: International Ensemble String Quartet

The International Ensemble is a group of talented students from Falmouth Academy playing classical music and more on violin, viola, cello, and piano.

6 PM: Puffy Elvis

Puffy Elvis is a big, old-time rock n’ roll band made up of teachers, retired teachers and some people who know teachers!  Young in spirit and high in energy, the band plays favorite classic rock hits and a few new tunes.

7:30 PM: 12-Step Boogie

Led by Gregory Fones, 12-Step Boogie plays a varied mix of R&B, blues, and rock, including tunes by Tom Petty, Mud Crutch, Steve Earle, Warren Zevon, Joe Walsh, J.J. Cale, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, and many many more. The band was formed in 2015 by Gregory Fones, Kevin St. Pierre, and Wayne Morea. Each bring years of experience, not just musically, but also as seasoned veterans of drugs and alcohol use during their early years as musicians. Addiction eventually took control and robbed them of their dreams and almost their lives. Now through sobriety and unity they’ve joined together to revive their dreams and their music. From 12 bars to 12 steps—12-Step Boogie!

Saturday, June 18, 2022: The Music Tent

10 AM: Family Fun!

11 AM: Allsorts: Smorgasbord with Morgaihne Huntress

Morgaihne Huntress is quirky, a bit eccentric, and neurodiverse. Join her for a mindful exploration of diversity, chronic illness, and acceptance told in original spoken word and popular music.

12 Noon: Legos! with Tom Cook

Tom Cook leads children and children at heart in an exploration of building and creating with Legos.

1 PM: 82nd Street Band

Led by Frank Carotenuto, the 82nd Street Band plays Bruce Springsteen songs and other songs in his style.

2 PM: Cat’s Melodeon

Cat’s Melodeon plays traditional Irish tunes and songs. Bill Black leads this group of fiddles, guitars, Irish pipes, and accordion players

3 PM: Low Pressure

Low Pressure is a group of four “Cape Cod guys” who play for the love of creating and playing music. Their repertoire is about fifty percent originals and fifty percent cover tunes. Low Pressure is an all-electric band with a rock-indie sound that features three vocalists..

4 PM: Kathleen Healy

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Kathleen Healy sings her own tunes and classic folk covers.

5 PM: Andrew Sexton Duo

Andrew Sexton plays and sings Great American music from several eras, including originals and standards.

Saturday, June 18, 2022: Peg Noonan Park Stage

2 PM: Richard Latimer

Singer/guitarist Richard Latimer sings folk songs.

3 PM: Seadog

Wayne Stuck is Seadog. He plays acoustic guitar and sings music popular tunes from the 1960s to 21st century

Sunday, June 19, 2022: The Performance Tent

11 AM: Shining Sea Strummers

Led by Kathy Johnson, the Shining Sea Strummers are an eclectic group of musicians playing ukuleles, guitars, and a bandurria. They perform sing-along songs of old favorites and encourage audience participation.

12 Noon: The Falmouth Fiddlers

The Falmouth Fiddlers, led by Ursula Boyce, includes about a dozen players on fiddles, guitars, banjo, mandolins, bass, cello, and more. They play and singe fiddle tunes: old-time, country, Celtic and more.

1 PM: Candida Rose

Candida Rose will sing Juneteenth celebration songs of resilience, inspiration, and love. Based in New Bedford, Candida Rose is a dynamic vocalist and songwriter who combines her Cape Verdean musical roots with American jazz, singing a mixture of jazz, rhythm and blues, and gospel that she calls KabuJazz.

2 PM: The Groovalottos

The GroovaLottos are a six-time Grammy-nominated, soul-funk jam band on a mission to turn every show into a party. Their latest album, “MAMA’s HAMPER – Pure Phunk” can be found here: thegroovalottos.com/mamashamper

The GroovaLottos were a big hit at Arts Alive’s 2021 Town Dance and everyone is invited back to dance to this great band again. The GroovaLottos play a mix of funky soul classics and catchy originals. Members are veteran touring and studio session players and singers led by Mwalim, who plays keyboard and sings. He’s also a producer and solo jazz recording artist. The band played their first show in 2011 at a multicultural festival in the afternoon, followed by a performance at a local dive that night. The GroovaLottos quickly became a New England regional favorite at bars, clubs, and events, with their lively and heartfelt rhythms. The current line up consists of core members Mwalim on keyboards, percussion, and vocals; Chuck V. on bass, guitar, and vocals; and The ZYG 808 on drums and vocals, and Shadowmaster on vocals and percussion.

3 PM: Juneteenth Spoken Word

Stories and poetry inspired by Juneteenth

3:30 PM: College Light Opera Company

Thirty-five members of CLOC’s 75-member vocal company and orchestra will play and sing a selection of songs in celebration of Juneteenth. These young people are among the nation’s most promising theater artists. They are in residence in Falmouth for 11 intense weeks of theater production over the summer.

4:15: Teaticket Elementary School Chorus

Marjorie Huelsman leads the Teaticket Elementary School Chorus in a selection of songs. These 3rd and 4th graders love to sing together.

Sunday, June 19, 2022: The Music Tent

11 AM: A World of Stories: Immigration

Falmouth Public School students, educators and Cheryl Hamilton, owner of Stellar Stories Company, will come together to share their stories of immigration. Cheryl will emcee the session, as well as perform a story of her own.

12 Noon: The Familiars of Cape Cod

Manny and Linda Dias are The Familiars of Cape Cod. They sing and play folk, fiddle, country, Irish, and popular music from the 1950s through the 1980s. Manny sings and plays guitar, and Linda plays fiddle, mandolin, harmonica, and Irish whistles.

1 PM: Michael Shea

Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Michael Shea performs original songs and some jazz standards. Influenced by Jesse Winchester, Tom Rush, Laura Nyro, John Prine, Bonnie Raitt, Mary Ann Florio, and Jackson Browne, Michael has a style all his own.

2 PM: Rose Martin and Jerry Doherty

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Rose Martin performs a versatile mix of original and cover tunes on acoustic guitar. Her rich vocals and soulful bluesy style bring out the essence of the music. Jerry Doherty sings and plays electric guitar.

3 PM: Bird at Sea

Bird at Sea is the alt/indie duo of songwriters Sierra Partlan (vocals and piano) and Andrew Aghababian (guitar). They have been writing and performing together in various configurations, including the band Unnamed Colors, which has performed at Arts Alive, for over a decade. Their music has been described as soulful and inventive.

4 PM: Richard Keith

Singer/songwriter Richard Keith plays guitar and harmonica. He has been performing solo and with a band for over 30 years and has released two CDs of original music Spotify, Apple Music, and Pandora.
