$30 – $40The New Black Eagle Jazz Band will perform traditional New Orleans jazz at Highfield Hall and Gardens, July 28 at 4 PM. Tickets are $30 for members/$40 for non-members and are available at Highfieldhallandgardens.org.
The New Black Eagle Jazz Band has been in existence for 52 years and features two longtime Falmouth residents, trombonist Stan Vincent and trumpet player Jeff Hughes. The band continues to delight audiences worldwide from Symphony Hall to Singapore, with its infectious, soulful and uplifting style of traditional New Orleans jazz. Paying homage to the greatest musicians of the early jazz era- Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, the band has also developed its own eclectic sound, incorporating spirituals, 1920s and ’30s popular music and even some songs recorded by Elvis and Bob Dylan.
Stan Vincent is the sole “original” member of the band at this point. He put together his first jazz band as a junior high school student and took lessons from the principal trombonist of the Boston Symphony. At Brown University, played with the Brunotes, a Condon-style band. Stan was a member of Jean and Doc Kittrell’s Chicago Stompers, Tex Wyndham’s Red Lion Jazz Band, the Jazz Doctors and Exit Jazz Band that featured banjoist Gil Roberts.
