Mark Chester to speak about “Roadshow Anthropology”

August 19 @ 6:30 pm

Woods Hole photographer/journalist Mark Chester will speak about his newest publication, Roadshow Anthropology, on Monday, August 19, at 6:30 PM, at the Woods Hole Public Library.

This collection of engaging black-and-white photographs captures America from the driver’s seat. Offering fresh perspectives on the United States’ iconic highways, byways, back roads, and small-town main streets, Mark Chester puts America’s unique spirit of innovation on full display. With humor and pathos, Roadshow Anthropology explores high and low culture and the worlds of commerce, architecture, design, advertising, and fashion. As a social commentator and a connoisseur of Americana, Chester pays homage to a range of influences, including the work of photojournalist Lee Friedlander.

Mark Chester has worked as a professional photographer for over 50 years. His work is in permanent museum collections nationwide, and during his career he has created numerous exhibitions, articles, and publications. One of his recent projects is The Bay State: A Multicultural Landscape, which is made up of portraits of more than 400 naturalized U.S. citizens of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

For his talk at the Woods Hole Public Library, Chester will share photographs and the stories behind the photographs from Roadshow Anthropology, and as readers of his monthly columns in the Falmouth Enterprise will know, his stories and his photographs are always artful, witty, and entertaining.
