Arts Alive 2023 Art Tent

Arts Alive 2023 will feature an Art Tent with activities throughout the weekend, including special workshops on Cartooning, Weaving, Origami, Zentangle art, Jewelry making, Painting, and Juneteenth, Pride, and Father’s Day activities. Plus lots of unstructured creative activities for all ages.

Saturday, June 17

10 AM: Here Are the Crayons! Glenn Rowland will be on hand to guide unstructured activities, including coloring Juneteenth Flags, Pride Flags, Father’s Day cards, painting rocks and shells, pony bead bracelets, and related activities.

11 AM: Storybook Reading and Illustrating with Darby Hobbs. Moved to Sunday at 1 PM

12 Noon: Weaving with Jane Parhiala. An experienced and creative weaver, Jane will guide those interested in small weaving projects.

1 PM: Draw a Cartoon Character with Tom Cook. Tom will share his love of cartoon characters, providing kids with pictures of favorite TV cartoon characters, along with tools to draw them. 

2 PM: Zentangle with Joanne Briana-Gartner. Learn the basics of Zentangling from an expert.

3 PM: Stories and Crayons! Morgaihne Huntress will read stories and encourage the writing of stories and poems, while Anne Oberteuffer will guide unstructured activities, including coloring Juneteenth Flags, Pride Flags, Father’s Day cards, painting rocks and shells, pony bead bracelets, and related activities.

4 PM: Painting Projects with Marilyn Rowland. Easy and fun painting projects for all ages.

Sunday, June 18

11 AM: Father’s Day Paracord Projects with William Brown. Learn how to tie paracord to make a keychain, bracelet, or snake that Dad will love.

12 Noon: Weaving with Jane Parhiala. An experienced and creative weaver, Jane will guide those interested in small weaving projects.

1 PM: Storybook Reading and Illustrating with Darby Hobbs. Darby will share her book, The Tail of Grace & Kristoff, about the love between a musical unicorn and a pig. It speaks of love, kindness, peace, acceptance, and how to make the world a better place. Her sister, Karen Kishibay, illustrates her books . Darby will also talk about her new book, Color the World in LoveTM, which she is asking youth to illustrate.

1 to 2 or 3 PM: Gelli Printing with Nancy McNiff. Nancy will teach gelli printing, a form of mono that uses flexible printing plates to create textures and layers of color. Acrylic paint is applied to the gelli plate using a brayer.  Stencils, masks and soft mark-making tools can be used to create images on the plate. Paper is then pressed on to the plate to lift the image. Note that acrylic paint will wash off hands, but not off clothes, once it is dry.

2 PM: Origami with Kirsten Karplus. Learn to make simple Origami (folded paper) projects.

3 PM: Here Are the Crayons! Anne Oberteuffer will be on hand to guide unstructured activities, including coloring Juneteenth Flags, Pride Flags, Father’s Day cards, painting rocks and shells, pony bead bracelets, and related activities.
