Cape Symphony Presents: Celtic Session; Community Dance

Cape Symphony Presents invites you to a gathering in the Celtic tradition, featuring a session with Chatham fiddler Rose Clancy followed by a community dance led by Summer McCall.

The event will be at Cape Symphony’s Falmouth campus (60 Highfield Drive) on Wednesday July 24, 2024. The session will begin at 6:30 PM, and the dance will be from 7:30 – 9:30 PM.

Rose Clancy plays the fiddle, mandolin, and banjo to high acclaim at concerts and festivals throughout the Northeast. She is the proprietor of The Chatham Fiddle Company. Summer McCall is a Celtic cellist, fiddler, and dancer, and Director of the Boston Celtic Music Festival. She has long experience calling traditional dances across the USA and Europe.

The pair returns to Cape Symphony’s Falmouth campus by popular demand, after a well-attended Community Dance this past March.

A Celtic session is typically led by one or two musicians, joined by any number of others on various instruments and vocals. The joy is in learning by listening, singing, and playing, and sharing this time-honored tradition.

For the dance, Summer McCall will draw from Irish, Scottish, Cape Breton, English folk and New England folk traditions including contra-dancing and square dancing. The dances will be easy and fun to learn, and no prior experience is necessary! Summer will teach with patience and good humor.
