“Sono Lino” at Woods Hole Film Festival Dinner & a Movie
December 14 @ 7:00 pm
$10 – $16The Woods Hole Film Festival Dinner & A Movie series presents the feature documentary Sono Lino, an intimate portrait of one of the greatest artists in history, on Saturday, December 14, at 7 PM. The film, by Jacob Patrick, is 76 minutes long. It will be preceded by the short film, Di Sarno, The Story of Emilio’s Ballato, by Johannes Kroemer.
Lino Tagliapietra is widely held as the greatest master glassblower in history, beloved by millions across the globe. He began his journey with glass at the age of 11 as a factory worker in Murano, Italy, and now at 88, he prepares for his final hot shop session while grappling with age, identity and the struggle of watching his protégés continue his legacy as his famed career comes to a close.
The filming for this project started in February of 2020, just weeks before the lockdown of the pandemic began. It was then that Jacob Patrick, the filmaker, met Lino in person for the first time. He not only got to experience him at work, but also experienced the magic that he brings to every space that he walks into.
There is a deeply grounding humility to Lino that Patrick wanted to portray, while also capturing the majesty of his work. Later on he followed him around the world, spending as much time with him as possible. There was no big budget, no huge crew, just the filmmaker with a camera in hand, spending some of the most impactful moments of his career with an incredibly special man. He set out to tell the story of a man, but what he discovered was the story of a family, and a legacy that will lovingly be carried on by the artists who he has deeply impacted throughout his life and career. To be around the wisdom of someone who is nearly 90 years old with a career spanning nearly eight decades, and to feel his day to day joy, his quiet, his heart, was transformative and this film and Lino changed his life.
