Róise and Frank is a narrative feature film by Rachael Moriarty and Peter Murphy (Ireland, 2022, 84 mins.) The film is in Gaelic with English subtitles and stars Bríd Ní Neachtain (The Banshees of Inisherin), Cillian Ó Gairbhí (Foscadh), Lorcan Cranitch, Ruadhán De Faoite And Barley

It’s been two years since Róise lost the love of her life, her husband Frank. She is now isolated in grief, cut off from family and community. The arrival of a mysterious dog, who seems intent on connecting with Róise heralds change, but is it for the better? The dog loves sports and steaks, has a favorite armchair and an aversion to Róise ‘s neighbor, Donncha. Róise realizes that this dog is her beloved Frank reincarnated. While her son worries that his mother has lost her mind, the local community embraces the idea of Frank’s return, especially as he coaches a shy local kid, Mikey, to become a star hurler and ensure success for the school team. Róise is happy again but is there a real future for her with a dog-husband?

About the Filmmakers

Rachael Moriarty and Peter Murphy formed a creative partnership in college in 1990. After 5 successful short films they made their feature debut in 2015 with the film TRADERS, starring Killian Scott(Dublin Murders, ’71) and John Bradley (Game of Thrones), a darkly comic take about the lengths people go to survive in a post Celtic Tiger Ireland.

Their second film, Róise and Frank, shows their desire to find lightness in the darker areas of the human experience, but with a resolutely positive approach. Rachael and Peter have recently secured production funding from Screen Ireland for their third feature, What I Know About Men, and both have successful independent careers as television directors working in Ireland.
